Isaac East, son of Rev. James and Anna Summers East, was born in Ripley county, Indiana, February 27, 1811, died April 21, 1926, aged 85 years, 1 month, and 24 days. He moved with his parents to Crawford county in the spring of 1854. Was converted and united with the Pleasant Ridge Baptist church the fourth of July, 1854, and was baptised by Rev. Bailey East.
He was married to Caroline Batman July 22, 1860, to this union were born 12 children, 5 sons and seven daughters, of whom 3 sons and 2 daughter are living; James H. and Thomas J. East, with whom he was living, and Peter East. of Terre Haute; Mrs Mary Cox and Mrs Rachel Searcy, of Fargo. Other relatives are James East, of Alton; and two brother-in-laws, David Batman, of Robinson, Ill., and W. H. Merritt, of Davis City, Iowa.
Though a man of Iron will and determination, he was true hearted and high minded, a man whose word was his bond, He was made a Master Mason in Posey Lodge No.188, at Leavenworth in the fall of 1887, but later moved his membership to Alton Lodge.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. J. Blackburn, of Wolf Creek. Ky., and the remains laid to rest by the side of his wife in the East cemetery by the Masonic lodge.
