Mrs. Grace Meaker whose body was found in a spring in the cellar of her Conklin Road home last night, apparently suffered a heart attack, Dr. A. J. Stillson of Windsor, a Broome County coroner, who investigated with sheriff's men, said this afternoon. But said there would be no autopsy. Mrs. Meaker, widow of Jared Meaker, a Methodist minister who died in 1933, was found about 6:30 o'clock , by Donald Norton and Herbert Cool, neighbors, who were summoned by Mrs. Lida Finch, a cousin, who was unable to find Mrs. Meaker when she went to her home. Sheriff's men said Mrs. Meaker, who lived, alone, apparently went to the spring for drinking water and suffered the heart attack when she knelt down to dip the surface, one foot below the opening; She had tipped a large cover back and it lay across her legs when she was found, her head in the water. The body was removed to the Frank L. DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, pending funeral arrangements. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Alice Drum of Los Angeles, Cal.; two sons, Charles of Syracuse and Merrit of Northfield, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Stone of Syracuse; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
