Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana he made his debut as a right handed pitcher on July 2, 1923, playing his entire with Chicago White Sox. In 21 Seasons, he pitched in 594 games with 1,073 strikeouts, 260 wins, 230 losses and a 3.67 earned run average. After retiring as a player, he was the White Sox' manager 1946 to 1948 and pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers 1949 to 1952 and Brooklyn Dodgers in 1954. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955.
