Olan "Shorty" Lowe, Wellington native and lifelong resident of Collingsworth County, died Tuesday, November 16, 1999 in Wellington at the age of 83.

Born October 12, 1916 in Wellington to James Andy and Callie J. King Lowe, he attended school in the Grassbur and Midway Communities. He married Almeda Harrell on September 21, 1940 in Graham. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a former truck driver. He had been a jailer for the Collingsworth County Sheriff's Department for over 10 years.

"Shorty" was a former member of the Wellington Lions Club and was active in the Collingsworth County RSVP program. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Almeda, of the home; two sons, Burl Lowe of Houston and Harrell Lowe of Littlefield; a daughter, Andrea Wauer of Vega; a sister, Hughetta Roberts of Big Spring; four grandchildren and sever step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vona D.Lowe in 1963 and by a brother and a sister.
