Thurlow Willard Call, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2002, surrounded by his loving family.

Thurlow, born April 17, 1915 in Brigham City, Utah was a descendant of Mormon pioneers and the son of Judge J.D. [Justin David] Call and Lula Bryan Call. He attended Brigham City Schools and graduated from South High in Salt Lake City and the University of Utah. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a longtime local businessman and in 1966 he ran for the Democratic nomination to the State Senate.

Thurlow met and married the love and companion of his life, Jessie Marcella Stanger in 1936. He and Jessie have three children, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grand-children. Thurlow's family was always very important to him. He was a kind and loving husband and wonderful father who loved life and loved people. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and truly loved God. He lived a wonderful life and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Thurlow is survived by his wife Jessie; his daughter Julie Call Waters and son-in-law William Waters of Santa Fe, NM; his daughter Barbara Call of Ross, CA; and his son Thurlow Stephen Call and daughter-in-law Bonnie Bryner Call of Sandy, UT; his grandchildren and great-grand-children. He is also survived by three of his 10 siblings, sisters Ruth Call Romney of Las Cruces, NM; Lula Call Chapin and Marcelle Call Jones, both of West Covina, CA.

There will be a viewing at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 South on Friday, March 22nd from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at the Monument Park 11th Ward Chapel, 1565 Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City with another viewing one hour prior to the funeral services. There will be a graveside service and burial at the Brigham City Cemetery.

Note: He died from generalized peritonitis following gangrene of the gallbladder. Obituary was published on Wednesday, March 20 2002 in the Desert News.
