Elizabeth Vestris Rethlefsen, of Bellingham, WA, passed away January 7, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Elizabeth was born June 24, 1922 to Emilie and Otto Hahnel in French territorial waters on the SS Vestris while immigrating from Germany to the United States. She married Eugene Morgan Rethlefsen on June 22, 1946.

Elizabeth was dedicated to her faith. She loved caring for her family, baking and spending time with her granddaughter and great grandson. Elizabeth was an accomplished pianist and soloist and her interest in music never diminished throughout her life.

One of her favorite pastimes was watching movie musicals especially with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Morgan, just 10 weeks earlier, and by a daughter, Diane Rethlefsen, in 1964.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Rethlefsen, of Bellingham; granddaughter, Stephanie and husband, Kevin Cooper, and great-grandson, Ash Cooper, of Portland, Oregon.

A family graveside service was held at Bayview Cemetery.
