William M. Carper was a soldier and physician of the Republic of Texas. He had his practice in Houston, Texas and was appointed chief of surgeons at the city hospital there. He ran for mayor of Houston in 1841 but did not win. His wife died on May 16, 1841. In 1846 he became the IOOF Grand Master of Texas. He died ca. 1859 and was buried in and unmarked grave in Founders Memorial Cemetery, Houston, Texas

Dr Wm M Carper, an old and esteemed citizen of our State, died at Fincastle on Sunday morning last. He was born in Botetourt county, took an active part in the Texan struggle for independence, and was one of the veterans of San Jacinto. Four other Virginians, who were present in that battle, bore his pall to the grave.
