Civil War Veteran - Enlisted September 20, 1864, at Ionia, Michigan and Mustered October 10, 1864, into Company D, 3rd Regiment, Michigan Infantry (Union). (2nd organization). Left State for Decatur, Ala., October 20. Attached to District of Northern Alabama, Dept. of the Cumberland, to November 1864. Battles, Skirmishes and Engagements: Defense of Decatur, Alabama against Hood's attack October 26-30, 1864. Expedition to Bull's Gap and operations in East Tennessee March 16-April 17. Moved to Nashville, Tenn., April 20-24, and duty there till June 15. Promoted to Corporal May 1, 1865. Admitted to Harper Hospital (Detroit) on July 9, 1865, which served as a general military hospital for wounded Civil War soldiers. Discharged on July 20, 1865, at Detroit, Michigan. Filed for Invalid Pension on August 8, 1890.
