Latham Resident Died Friday After Lengthy Illness

Elsie Wheeler Armstrong

Services for Elsie Chillottie (Wheeler) Armstrong were held Saturday afternoon at the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Arthur Wilkinson officiated and burial was in the church cemetery with Jackson Brothers Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Armstrong died early Friday morning at her home near Latham. She had been ill many months. A lifelong resident of the Latham community, she was born January 18, 1898. She was the daughter of James R. Wheeler and Mattie Jane Ross. She was the wife of Wayman L. Armstrong. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a daughter; Joy Beauton Armstrong.

Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her husband; Wayman Armstrong, one son; Jason Armstrong, both of Latham; two granddaughters; Rebecca Armstrong Cheatham of Union City, and Nelda Armstrong of Latham, one brother; Harcourt Wheeler of Martin, and one sister; Bonnie Wheeler Thomas of Latham.
