Born in Austin, TX on May 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Esther (Farrell) Handy, she had been a life-long resident of East Hartford.
Helen was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1942 and a long-time faithful communicant of St. Isaac Jogues Church, East Hartford.
Prior to her retirement, Helen was a secretary for several years at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, East Hartford.
Besides her beloved "Frankie Boy" and parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Frances and Estelle and two brothers, John and Jimo.
Helen is survived by her nine special children, sons, Gary Agnew and his wife, Dorothy, of Columbia, James Agnew and his wife, Elaine, of Bolton, Francis "Hank" Agnew of Storrs; daughters, Sharon Riordan and her husband, William, of East Hartford, Mary-Beth "Bea" George and her husband, Raymond, of East Hartford, Susan Coburn and her husband, Timothy, of Glastonbury, Christine Agnew of East Hartford, Diane Turkis and her husband, Bruce, of Columbia, Theresa "Teka" Agnew of New Britain; a brother, Stanley O'Connell and his wife, Diane, in Rhode Island; a sister, Wilma Manion of East Hartford; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling hours and Funeral services were held at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Isaac Jogues Church, East Hartford.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.
