Death claimed another one of the few remaining early settlers of Hitchcock county the past week, when Mrs. Nick Brehm passed away at the Brehm farm home, four and a half miles west of Culbertson last Friday following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at both the home and at the Zion Evangelical church in Culbertson, with Rev. F.C. Ebinger officiating. Gregg and Herrmann were in charge. Burial was made in the local cemetery. The large attendance at the funeral services and the beautiful floral offerings were testimonials to the high esteem in which the deceased was held in the community.

Mrs. Margaret Brehm, nee Yost, was born in Norga, Russia, June 21, 1865 and departed this life January 20, 1933 at the age of 67 years, 6 months, and 29 days.

In 1878 she came with her parents to America and settled in Dorchester, Wisconsin, later moving with the family to Columbus, Ohio. Three years later they moved to Harvard, Nebraska. On November 19, 1882, she was united in marriage to Nicholas Brehm and to this union were born 14 children, four sons and ten daughters, two daughters preceding the mother in death.

While still living in the neighborhood of Sutton, Nebraska she was converted to God under the labors of Rev. H. Sohl and united with the Evangelical church of which she was a member until her demise. In the home she was a kind and loving wife and mother, always devoted to the interest of her family. She, too, knew what it was to look into the open grave in which the body of loved ones were placed. Besides rearing her own family, she cared for her motherless grandchildren. When her health permitted she was always in her place at the services of the church. As her own loved ones, so we will miss her. She rests from her labors, but her works do follow her.

She leaves to mourn her loss her deeply bereaved husband, twelve children, John of Beverly; Mrs. James Kotch, Overt, Colorado; Mrs. Jake Frank, McCook; Mrs. Henry Yost, Culbertson; William, McCook; Mrs. Darrell Martin, Los Angeles, California; Sam of McCook; Ben of McCook; Mrs. Edwin Bradley, Culbertson; Mary, Esther, and Elsie, Culbertson; twenty-nine grandchildren; and one great- grandchild; one brother, John Yost, Harvard; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Walker of Fromberg, Montana; and Mrs. Henry Miller of Reedly, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
