Graveside service took place Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, in Lakewood Cemetery in Henderson, Texas, officiated by the Rev. David Luckert under the direction of Crawford A. Crim Funeral Home of Henderson.
In celebration of the life of Mary Alford Coleman, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at University Park United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Matt Gaston and Dr. Rebecca Frank.
Mary passed away quietly on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012. She was born to Maude Elizabeth Woodyard and Egbert Benson Alford in Henderson, Texas, on Feb. 4, 1924, where she cherished her large extended family. She attended Hockaday School in Dallas before attending The University of Texas where she graduated with a degree in business.
She met the love of her life, GABE COLEMAN, on a blind date to the Texas / A&M football game. While he finished his medical training they lived in Galveston, Texas, Indianapolis, Ind., and Iowa City, Iowa. Together they raised three children in San Angelo, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by her children, Robert Benson Coleman of Midland, Texas, Mary Maude Coleman Tabor and her husband, Mike, of Dallas, and Thomas Gabriel Coleman Jr. and his wife, Lynne, also of Dallas.
She adored her grandchildren, David Benson Tabor and his wife, Jenny, Mary Elizabeth Tabor Vest and her husband, Johnathan, Gabriel Benson Coleman, Caroline Virginia Coleman Brown and her husband, Robin, Benson Marshall Coleman and Gabriel Thomas Coleman. However, the jewels in her crown were her six precious great-grandchildren, Kate and William Tabor, Jon Harper and Virginia Vest and Sonny and Coleman Brown.
Her life was also filled with loving cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends.
Mary lived in San Angelo, Texas, with her family for many years, where she was a volunteer for the Shannon Hospital Auxiliary Group and attended First United Methodist Church of San Angelo. Mary and Gabe loved spending time with their bridge group and traveling.
After Gabe's death, Mary moved to Dallas to be closer to her family. She attended University Park United Methodist Church and enjoyed her time within the Edgemere community. While at the University of Texas, Mary was a Chi Omega and continued to be involved with the alum groups in both San Angelo and Dallas. After moving to Dallas, she was able to reunite with many of her Chi Omega sisters.
