Accident is Fatal to T. L. Ward
FORSYTH, MT. --- Thomas Leroy Ward, 79, of Sanders died Thursday morning t Rosebud Community Hospital here from a blood clot taht occurred after a tractor, driven by Richard Daem, went out of control, knocked him down Wednesday afternoon and ran over his chest, Treasure County Sheriff George Stewart said.
The tractor went out of control on a small hill above Mr. Ward's barn, slid down the embankment and struck him.
Sheriff Stewart said Ward was in "good Spirits" En route to the hospital here and doctors were optimistic about his recovery.
Attendants said a blood clot killed Ward while he was eating breakfast Thursday.
Daem was taken to a hospital in Miles City later Thursday to be treated for shock.
Mr. Ward was born Nov. 12, 1883, at Eldorado Springs, MO., a son of Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Alexander Ward.
He grew up there.
He came to Billings in 1905 and homesteaded od Sarpy Creek east of Hysham in 1907.
He moved to his home two miles west of Sanders in 1916.
He lived there since.
He married Catherine M. Eason in January 1909 at Eldorado Springs.
Mr. Ward served four terms as Treasure County Commissioner.
Surviving are the widow, a son, Thomas L. Ward of Hysham, MT., a daughter, Mrs. Edith Harper of Big Timber, MT. five sisters, four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be ay 2 p.m. Monday at Beals Chapel in Forsyth, the Rev, Merle Allen officiating.
Burial will be in the Forsyth Cemetery, Forsyth, MT.
