The family of Henry Peers' mother, Eleanor Grayson Orr,
was very much identified with the history of Virginia. Her
father, John Orr, was a successful merchant in Leestown
with a plantation, Waterside on the Rappahannock. He was one of the original signers. of the Leestown Resolution
of 1766, one of the first public expressions of resistance
to English tyranny. Her uncle, Colonel William Grayson,
was a member of the Continental Congress and one of the
first two United States Senators from Virginia. Henry Peers' uncle, Alexander Orr, was elected to the Kentucky Legislature and the U.S. Congress.
