GEORGE THURMAN PIKE was born at Booneville, Prentiss County, Mississippi. He and his parents, HENRY HARRISON PIKE and wife, PEACHIE ARLEVIA FINCH, came to Texas in 1925, while he was still a school boy. He graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston, Texas. He worked as a file clerk with attorneys (Sears, Blades, Moore and Kennerly) in the Petroleum Building on Texas Avenue. He decided to take night classes and attended a school that was teaching a radio course. His hobby was working on and building radios and when television came along, he taught himself how to work on them. He took on a new job as Corrosion Engineer with a new company, Houston Natural Gas Corporation, which was then located in the Petroleum Building on Texas Avenue. When the company found he had knowledge of radio, they asked him to set up a communication system over the gulf coast area. From then own, he was Superintendent of Communications. He also built pipe locators saving the company money. He had retired from Houston Natural Gas Corporation before the company merged and became Enron. Thurman married JOHNNIE LUCILLE CLIFTON; second Mrs. LOIS MITCHELL ROSSMAN AND last Mrs. LILLIE MARY COX PEDEN.

When Thurman was a lad, he was a "cotton top" but as he got older his hair darkened to a medium shade of brown. He had blue eyes and was five feet, ten inches tall.
