Floy Edna Mathis
Floy Edna Mathis, daughter of Ida Belle and John White, was born in Ringgold County on August 29, 1897, and died of heart failure on Wednesday, March 6, 1985. She spent her childhood in Iowa, and later moved to Missouri, then back to Iowa. On July 23, 1914 she was united in marriage to Vern Mathis. Three daughters were born to this union, Donella, Oma and Cleta. She also raised two grandchildren, Elaine Boyer and Lavon Minnick, whom she loved as her own. She made her home in Mount Ayr after the death of her husband, Vern. When her health failed she moved to Clearview Home. Early in life she was faithful to God and was very active in church until her health failed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vern and three brothers, John, Weldon and Samuel. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Donella Uhjenhoff and husband of Greene, Iowa, Oma Watts and husband of Bedford, Iowa and Cleta Rauling of Omaha, Nebraska, and two granddaughters she raised, Elain Boyer and Lamoni and Lavon Minnick. Other grandchildren are Marvin, Betty Jo, Eileen, Kay and Sarafine; her two sisters, Pearl Mickael of Kellerton and Bertha Bowen of Eagleville, MO and two sisters-in-law, Wilma White of Kellerton and Alice White of Pocahontas, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Olha Bowen of Eagleville, MO. and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her family and friends will remember her as a kind and considerate loved one and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Services were held Saturday March 9, 1985 at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Officiating was Pastor Larry Burton. Music was provided by Mrs. Robert Thomas and Mrs. Elbert Strange. Casketbearers were Larry Hill, True Boyer, Mike Garner, Gary Saville, Steve Swigart and Marvin Saltzman. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa. There is a memorial fund to the American Heart Association.
