Marian E. Carroll, 98 of Austin, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Our House Assisted Living in Austin.

Marian Eleanor Thorson was born September 5, 1914 at Adams, Minnesota the daughter of Enoch and Martha (Kleppe) Thorson. She grew up in the Adams area and graduated from Adams High School in the Class of 1932. Marian graduated from normal school in Austin, MN. She taught in rural schools in the Lyle and Myrtle areas. Her parents moved to a farm in the Lyle/London area. There she met Maurice "Shorty" Carroll and they were married on June 14, 1937 at St. Joseph, MO. The Carroll's lived and farmed in the London area. Marian was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She had been a Sunday School teacher and Bible teacher. She had served on the Freeborn County Library Board, many blood drives and was a member of the Mother's Club. Marian enjoyed reading, fishing, traveling, and playing golf. She also liked to play cards and had taught her grandchildren and great grandchildren several card games.

Marian is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Rosalie Carroll, Austin, MN; Douglas and Ilene Carroll, Austin, MN; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband "Shorty" in 1972, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 20th at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga AiM, officiating. Entombment will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. There will be visitation at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:00PM and at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Foundation.
