Maurice was born in Boone County Missouri, the son of Fred and Mary Edith Allison Hayth. In 1918 the family moved from the farm to Dallas, Texas. He worked at Skillern's Drug Store as a soda jerk. His Dad, Fred Lee Hayth, owned Hayth Food Store in Dallas where Maurice helped his father with this business for many years.

He met Mattie V. Lary at the casino at Lake Worth. They were married in Fort Worth, Texas on August 28, 1928.

One daughter: Mary Viola born in 1932

Maurice retired in March 1971 from the Texas & Pacific Railroad, with 50 years service with the railroads, 30 of which were spent as an engineer.
