Susanna Bontly Aug. 11, 1870 – August 12, 1962

Funeral services for Mrs. Christian Bontly, 92 years of age, native of Mt. Pleasant township, who died at 5:45 a. m. Sunday in the Dane county home home, Verona, the day after her birthday anniversary, were held at 2 Tuesday afternoon at the Zwingli United Church of Christ here. The Rev. J. Allan Mittler, church pastor, and the Rev. William A. Schultz, of Memorial Church, Madison, officiated, and burial was in the adjoining church cemetery. Pallbearers were Clarence Babler, Richland Center, R. J. Theiler, Madison, Ed. A. Bontly, Otto E. Bontly, Jake Schultz and Walter Tryon, Monticello.

Mrs. Bontly had resided in Madison since, 1907. until becoming a resident of the Dane
county home in March, 1958.

Susanna Babler was born on a farm in Mt. Pleasant township on Aug. 11, 1870, the
daughter of Isaias and Anna Rhyner Babler. She attended rural school. On Jan. 13, 1889, she was united in marriage to Christian Bontly, the ceremony taking place in New Glarus. Her husband was in the wholesale cheese business in Monticello and Madison for many years. Mr. Bontly was also a former director of the Bank of Monticello.
She was a charter member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, Madison.
Surviving are three sons, William A. Bontly, Janesville, Clarence A. Bontly, Madison, and
Louis A. Bontly, New Orleans, La.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, two sons, two brothers, Henry and Jacob Babler: a half-brother, Isaac Babler: five sisters, Mrs. Sam Wittwer, Mrs. Lemuel Schultz, Mrs. Mary Hess, Miss Fannie Babler, and Mrs. Celia Bontly; one half-sister, Mrs. Jacob Kubly; seven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
