Virginia M. Alberts, 76, died Monday, February 1, 1999 at Community Hospital in McCook.

She was born March 12, 1922 in Red Willow County to Homer and Mabel (Dack) Vaughn. She grew up on a farm north of McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1939. Following graduation she began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in McCook.

On March 28, 1947 she married Harm W. Alberts at Culbertson. They farmed west of Culbertson until retiring in 1983. He died August 6, 1992, and she moved to Culbertson in 1996.

She was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson; the American Legion Auxiliary; Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; the 96th Infantry Division Association Auxiliary; and the Laugh A Lot Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harm; two brothers, Clifford Vaughn and Kenneth Vaughn; and one sister, Gladys Vontz.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie and husband, Ron Barger of Culbertson; Bette and husband, Keith Bean of McCook; one sister, Ethel Peterson of Trenton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Thursday at 2 p.m. at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson with the Rev. David Bergquist officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Herrmann Funeral Chapel in Culbertson. Memorials are being accepted in her name. Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
