Elsie was born November 28, 1945 in Abilene, Texas to Goldie and Allen Hatchett. She married Charles "Rigger" Spurgin, Sr in 1979 and he preceded her in death on March 12, 2004. She had been a resident of Big Lake since 1978. She owned Bloom & Blossom flower shop and was also a driver for Borden's Milk in Big Lake. She was a Pentecostal.
Elsie is survived by three daughters: Karen Pruitt and husband Wayne of Big Spring, Stephanie DeLaCruz and husband Richard of Carrollton and Shawna Torres and husband German of McCamey; one son Jerry Newberry and wife Betty of Springtown; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters Patricia Phillips and Levina Salinas.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles Victor Spurgin and one brother James Allen Hatchett.
Pallbearers will be Richard DeLaCruz Jr, Brett Hancock, German Torres, Dean Newberry, Wayne Pruitt and Darryl Newberry.
