Life Legacy
Georgialee "Dodie" Harvey, 85, a 20 year resident of Ottawa, Illinois, formerly of Oswego and Western Springs, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Sandwich Rehabilitation & Health.
Georgialee "Dodie" Harvey was born in 1927 to Warren and Gertrude (Bosworth) Bulla in Oklahoma. She married Carl Harvey on June 26, 1954 in Western Springs, Illinois. She is survived by her husband, Carl; four children; daughter, Lauralee (George) Gaworski of Ottawa, daughter, Kimberly (Greg) Marsh of Naperville, son, J. Scott Harvey of Wyoming, daughter, Amy (Brian) Conrad of California; grandchildren, GL (Jenny) Gaworski, Brad (Lindsey) Gaworski, Ryan Gaworski, Kourtney Gaworski, Nathan Gaworski, Angela (Seong Ku/Kyle) Mitter, Michael (Diana) Marsh, Christoper (Chelsea) Harvey, Ashtyn, Everett, and Avery Conrad; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marilynne Feely.
She was called "Dodie" by many family and friends. She attended North Central College and nursing school; she called herself a "general flunky", but proven domestic engineer was a better description. She was an artistic, energetic, talented woman. She tackled every project from building stone walls, a chicken coop, and wall papering and painting. She was a dedicated room-mother, Girl Scout Leader, Awana Leader, Sunday school teacher, choir member and church secretary. She was an avid golfer with the Fox Bend women's league and with her husband Carl and friends. She enjoyed photographing; particularly birds, old barns, sky divers and hot air balloons. She was a generous friend to many, serving others with her time and talents and baking; she was an exceptional hostess and homemaker!
A love of traveling started at a young age when she travelled with her parents from Illinois to Yosemite National Park in California and other areas. This is also where her love of photography began. She and her husband Carl enjoyed trips across the entire United States as well as to Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Ireland.
She and her husband Carl were charter members of Illinois Valley Evangelical Church of Ottawa; they previously attended Claim Street Baptist Church in Aurora, Oswego Baptist Church of Oswego, and Village Baptist Church of Western Springs.
Visitation for Georgialee will be Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 4:30 to 7:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Friday at 10:00 am at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Brief services and burial will be at 2:00 pm at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora.
Memorials may be directed to the Sandwich Nursing Home for a flower and bird garden area.
Thank you to the staff at Sandwich and Orchard View (Princeton) Nursing Homes and Guiding Light Hospice.
