The daughter of Hugh D. Mann and Ida "Cora" Harlin, Iva was married to Edward Franklin "Ed" Jacoby. They were the parents of 12 children.

Ed worked as a self-employed butcher during the early years of their marriage when the family lived in Chesterfield, Macoupin County, Illinois. Iva was a member of the Chesterfield Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbor Lodge.

The family moved to Hartford, Madison County, Illinois in 1934 where Ed was the superintendent of streets for 25 years.

4 of Iva and Ed's sons--Robert, Jack, Jake and Steve--served in the military during World War II. On 21 Aug 1944, the Jacoby's were notified that Robert was missing in action in France. Nearly 6 months later on 17 Feb 1945, the War Department notified the family that Robert had been killed in action on 31 Jul 1944.

Just a month before Robert was killed, Steve was seriously wounded in Saipan on 17 Jun 1944. He was hospitalized for 10 months. Jack was in the army and was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. Jake was wounded on 16 Feb 1946 while on Luzon with the 33rd Infantry Division.

Iva suffered from poor health due to a diabetic condition for the final 11 years of her life. She spent much of 1952 in the hospital as her condition deteriorated.

Iva died at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 27 days. She was survived by her husband, Ed; 4 daughters, Esther Steele of Rockbridge, Illinois, Faye Robinson of Hartford, Illinois, Helen Jacoby of Hartford, Illinois, and Mary Lovell of Roxana, Illinois; 5 sons, Wendell of Roxana, Illinois, Neal of Hartford, Illinois, Jack of West Alton, Missouri, Jake of Peoria, Illinois, and Steve of Hartford, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Rhea Highfill of Parma, Missouri.

In addition to her son, Iva was also preceded in death by her parents and 2 infant daughters in 1928 and 1929.

Visitation was held at the Streeper Funeral Home on 24 Jan 1953. Funeral services were conducted there at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 26 Jan 1953.
