Howard, as he was known, died on the Burma Road to India during World War II from typhus fever. He was a tank mechanic working on tanks on the Lido Rd in Burma prior to becoming ill. He was first buried in the American National Cemetery in Calcutta, India. His mother had to go through a senator to get his body brought back home to the Bethel Baptist Cemetery near Attilla in LaRue County, Kentucky, which was his second burial , on May 29, 1948 and where there is a grave marker (now a cenotaph). Later however, his son, Jesse Lee Allen, got a court order to remove his remains from Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery and had them buried a third time in Mount Tabor Cemetery, as he didn't want his mother, Beatrice, to be buried by herself. See FAG memorial #90337131 for his burial in Bethel.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice Skaggs Allen; his son, Jesse Lee Allen; his Mother, Betty Allen Abell; and three sisters, Mrs Jane (Carl) Hash, Mrs Evelyn (Lindsey) Beard, and Mrs Lillie (Burlin) Roark all of LaRue County.
He is predeceased by his father Alfred Goodson Allen.
[This information comes from his niece, which confirms that he is indeed buried in Mount Tabor and not in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery despite the grave marker there.]
