Gordon T. Getz, Sr., age 81, passed away on August 6, 2009. He was born on May 29, 1928 in Springfield MA to Gordon T. Prescott and Ethel Potts Getz. Gordon is survived by his seven children, Rosemary Sutton, husband David, of Albuquerque NM, Gordon T. Getz, Jr., wife Toni, of Albuquerque NM, Barbara Getz, partner Bob Goldstein, of Santa Fe NM, Martha Gallagher, husband Mark, of Littleton CO, Paula Getz, partner Wendy Foxworth, of Albuquerque NM, Paul Getz, wife Audrey Martinez, of Albuquerque NM, and Carolyn Perkins of Colorado Springs CO; his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his brother Robert Getz, wife Marcella, of Farmington CT; his half-brother Richard Prescott, wife Carole, of Higganum CT; his numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon T. Prescott and Ethel Potts Getz; his step-father, Gilbert Getz; his sister, Marguerite Prescott. Gordon served in the United States Marine Corps at the end of WWII, honorably discharged in 1946. He worked as a station agent and manager for Frontier Airlines starting in Albuquerque NM in 1948, transferring to Provo UT, returning to Albuquerque in 1951, on to Nogales AZ, Alamosa CO and Gallup NM. In 1956, while living in Gallup, he achieved his life-long dream, he received his commercial pilot's license. He left Frontier Airlines, flew for a private company who contracted with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Gallup until 1958 when he moved to Santa Fe NM and was employed as a pilot for the NM State Highway Department until 1971. He loved flying and his passengers loved flying with him. He worked in the general office until his retirement in 1985. Gordon spent his retirement years in Mountainair NM and his last couple of years in Albuquerque. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Toastmasters. Gordon was honored as a father and will be missed. A Prayer Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on August 29, 2009 at Daniel's Family Funeral Services with a reception to follow the service. A private family burial will follow the reception. In lieu of flowers, send a donation to your favorite charity in Gordon's name.
