Estella T. Gwirtz, age 93, of 65 Raymond Avenue, Shelby, died early Wednesday, June 17, 1998 in Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.

She was born January 18, 1905 in New Washington, Ohio the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Mehnen) Durnwald. Mrs. Gwirtz was a homemaker and was a retired employee of the Shelby Spring Hinge Company. She was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, St. Ann's Society, Shelby Eagles Auxiliary, and Golden Agers Club. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Mrs. Gwirtz is survived by 3 sons and 4 daughters-in-law, Robert and Georgia Gwirtz of Shelby; Richard and Madeline Gwirtz of Shelby; Donald and Shirley Gwirtz of Shelby; and Ruth Gwirtz of Crestline. 10 grandchildren. 3 step grandchildren. 22 great grandchildren. 7 step great grandchildren. 1 great great granddaughter. 1 sister, Martha Gwirtz of Shelby. 1 brother-in-law, Henry Gwirtz of Shelby. 1 sister-in-law, Barbara Durnwald of New Washington, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Gwirtz in 1973; a son Norman Gwirtz in 1998; 2 brothers, Cletus and Clem Durnwald; 2 sisters, Josephine Heydinger and Mary Lucius; and 1 step granddaughter, Kathy (Cramer) Lewis in 1992.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where a scripture service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery.
