Mrs. Carlton, age 83, of Gillette, Wyoming died on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Close To Home Hospice House of natural causes. Bernice Mae Carlton was born on March 21, 1929 in Gillette, Wyoming the daughter of Oran and Anna Ethel (Elliott) Cooper. She was raised and educated in Gillette, graduating from Campbell County High School. On September 27, 1947, she married James "Jimmie" Carlton Jr., a lifetime friend. Bernice worked for Mountain Bell from 1950 until 1962. In 1962, she began work for USDA Ag Stabilization until her retirement in 1983. Bernice was a hard worker, spending any time off at her job helping Jimmie ranching, raising horses and breaking horses. She would also accompany him on the road while he was trucking and would even have her turn at the wheel.
Bernice is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Joe) Molaskey of Greybull, Wyoming; aunt, Thelma Joslyn of Laramie, Wyoming;one sister-in-law, Bunky Morrison of Gilbert, Arizona and one-brother-in-law, Don (Arlene) Carlton of West Jordan, Utah; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Virginia Appley; two sisters-in-laws: Evelyn and Ladenna and two brothers- in- law, Ted and an infant who died at birth. Memorials are suggested to Gillette College Rodeo Team in Bernice's name.
