Vincent J. Didia, 81, of Fords passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Highlands in Edison.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Didia lived in Fords for the past 51 years.

He was employed by Merck in Linden for 43 years before retiring in 1992.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Didia was a member of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in Fords, Knights of Columbus Council 9199, Fords-Keasbey Senior Citizens Club, Merck Retirees Club, and the Merck baseball team. He was a coach for the Hopelawn Little League and a volunteer for six years for Meals on Wheels and the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Genevieve Duffy Didia; one son, James Vincent Didia of Atlanta. Ga.; one brother, Nicholas Didia of Hightstown; two grandsons, Matthew and Joseph, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers, Jerry, John, Vito, Victor, Carl and Joseph, and two sisters, Niffa Jazesf and Mary Lebel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4261, Pittsfield, Mass. 01202.
