Eleanore (Abate) DeStefano died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at the Van Dyke Hospice in Toms River. She was 83.
Visitation will be Sunday at the Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, from 2 to 6 p.m., then on Monday at the Corey-Ragan Funeral Home, 259 Elm Ave., Rahway, from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Thence to St. John Vianney Church, Colonia, for a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy. Entombment is in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
Born in Rahway, Mrs. DeStefano was a member of the Sweet Adelines, and a former member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Rahway Elks Lodge 1075. She also volunteered at the South Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin.
Prior to her retirement in 1982, she was an executive secretary at Exxon Corp. for 38 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, and a sister, Carmella D'Alessandro.
Surviving are two sisters, Dolores Dohery of Massachusetts and Gloria Abate of New Jersey; brothers-in-law, Anthony, John and Frank DeStefano and Gene D'Alessandro, all of New Jersey; several nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.
