Henry William Anz Jr., 89, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Clifton Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, at the funeral home.

Henry William was born in Womack, Texas, to the late Henry William Sr. and Annie Anz, one of 11 children. He attended Womack school. While quite young, he began helping on the family's farm, by plowing, planting, and helping with the harvesting of crops. After the death of his father, he worked the farm and in 1949, purchased it from his mother.

On Sept. 29, 1945, he married Dora Ida Buro. Henry began his own business as a building contractor, having built a home on the family farm. He built many home in Clifton and the surrounding areas, including two homes for his daughter and also helped his son remodel a home. He attended Zion United Church, serving as chairman of the church's administrative council for one year.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora; a grandson, Bryan Patrick Matthys; and sisters, Marie Lastor, Regina Neinast, and Mildred Hovend.

Survivors include his daughter, Katharine Matthys and husband, Marvin, of Hubbard; son, Kevin and wife, Sandra, of Clifton; grandsons, Bradley Matthys and wife, Sarah, of West, and Brent Matthys and wife, Crystal, of San Antonio; great-granddaughter, Kindra EllaMarie Matthys, of West; sisters, Hildegarde McDowell, of Clifton, Josephine King, of Duncanville, and Christine Chandler, of Yuma, Colo.; brother, Joseph Anz, of West Melbourne, Fla.; long-time friend, Irene Lloyd; a host of nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends.
