"Memorial day was observed with befitting exercises in Princeton yesterday but, owing to the unusually cold, backward spring, it was a hard matter to procure a supply of flowers. The graves of the following wearers of the blue were bestrewn with flowers: D. A. Caley. Noah Gates, G. A. Bigelow, W. A. Davis, S. Whitcomb, Wallace T. Rines, Oliver Walters, John Austin, John Mirick, Mitchell Garlinghouse and August Boyn."

Oliver, father, and brothers served in Company I, 5th Cavalry Regiment Indiana. Father Philip Walters died in Civil War at Kingston, Tennessee. Brother Jacob Walters died in Andersonville Prison. Brother Lewis Walters died in Resaca, Georgia.
