Lara is the daughter of Roy and Pearl (Hochstetler) Strauss. She married Glen E. Honderich on Oct. 13, 1940 at Nappanee. They have four living children, 2 boys and 2 girls. She was preceded in death by a son, David; a granddaughter; three sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Jean Phillips and Betty Weldy; and a brother, Lyle Strauss.
She was a graduate of Goshen College and Ball State University, she taught elementary art in the Fairfield Schools system.
