Rites Planned For Campbell, Homestake Vet
LEAD - John A. Campbell, a Homestake veteran, died Saturday morning at the mining company hospital where he had been entered Friday evening. Campbell, who had been in failing health for the past few months, was taken ill suddenly Friday.
Born Feb. 23, 1885, at Derbyshire, England, Campbell came to the United States in about 1910 and entered the employ of the Homestake. Campbell served in the mine department and later as a watchmaker (watchman?) before his retirement in 1950.
A member of the Independent Order of Foresters, Campbell was also a member of the Homestake Veterans Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, April 11, 1952.
Survivors include a sister, Annie Grace Anderson, and a niece, Mrs. Fred Schell, both of Lead; a step-daughter, Mrs. Margaret Patterson of Horse Creek, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Gertrude Ann Casey of Hawaii.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McColley Mortuary Chapel. Rev. J. Harley Thompson will officiate and burial will be in the Mountain Lawn Cemetery.
