James Joseph Reilly, son of John Reilly and Mary (Dunley)Reilly of County Cavan, Ireland. He is believed to have been born on October 23, 1869, in County Cavan, Ireland. There is some question regarding his actual birth year found in existing records.

For example, his Petition of Naturalization, which had been filed in Federal State and Local Courts in New York City, dated 22 July 1891, states he was born on the 23rd of October 1869, while his Certificate of Death, issued by the State of Nebraska, reported his date of birth to be 23 October 1868.

James arrived in America, with his parents and siblings on the 21st of May 1885. He was just five months shy of his 16th birthday.

New York's Index to Petitions for Naturalization, filed in New York City, revealed 22 year old James Joseph Reilly was granted Naturalization on 22 July 1891. At that time, his occupation was listed as a "Clerk".

James married Margaret Mary Ennis, of Tagoat, Wexford, Ireland, daughter of Daniel J. Ennis, and Margaret Rochford, also of Tagoat, Wexford, Ireland.

James and Margaret were the parents of eight children, all of whom were born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Their children included: James Thomas Reilly; twins, Margaret Anne and Mary Patricia Reilly; Agnes Lillian Mary Reilly; Catherine Frances Reilly; Leo Henry "John" Reilly; Daniel Reilly, and Frances Reilly.

James was employed by the Cudahy Meat Packing Company, in Omaha, Nebraska; often traveling to both England and Ireland, during his first few years with the company. Later, he worked as a foreman, for Cudahy Meat Packing.

James died on September 2, 1925, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Creighten Memorial, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was buried on September 4, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, in Omaha.
