Dr. JAMES PETERSON GOGGANS was a surgeon of the Alabama
Regiment in the Confederate Service.
Dr. JAMES PETERSON GOGGANS married MARY JANE WORKS. They lived near Rockford, Alabama. Dr. Goggans was educated in Charleston, South Carolina, and New York City. He was an exceptional Christian man who spent his life serving others by riding horseback far and near to treat the sick--often without remuneration. In fact, he treated one family for typhoid fever year after year, finally contracted it himself, and died at his home in Alexander City, Alabama.
