Brinton Jr. (called 'Red', and at times 'Bob') was the son and the eldest child born to Brinton Wallace McNeil and Florence Irene Smith. He is remembered as full of life with a jovial nature. He grew up in the Eugene area, later relocating to Portland, and St. Helens, Oregon.

In 1946, he enlisted in the Army, and by the 1950's, he was traveling to the orient as a Merchant Marine. One trip recorded was between Seattle and Singapore China (1952).

Red McNeil married Josephine Wooden at St Helens on May 19, 1951. They had the following children:

Kathy McNeil Vigil
Kenneth Lowell McNeil (deceased)
Keith Lee McNeil

Brinton Wallace McNeil passed away in 1983, after an unexpected illness.
