World War II Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless efforts as an engineering officer aboard USS Franklin, near Kobe, Japan, who risked his life in rescuing fellow crewman from their damaged ship and then lead firefighting parties into blazing infernos in an effort to save his ship.
