David Michel Alkazin, 68, son of the late Michael and Linda Alkazin, died on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home after a short illness.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
David taught for 30 years in the Fairfax County, VA School System as an Industrial Arts teacher. His students were winners in many county competitions. He was an outstanding teacher and artist, a good and devoted son to his parents, and a good friend to many in Scotland Neck. David was a great "uncle and buddy" to Maeve, Eammon, Caden, Evelyn, and John Sullivan.
He is survived by his sister, Nita Alkazin Walker, her husband Michael, and two nephews, Michael, Jr., his wife, Heather, and his son, Caden, and Kyle, his wife Jennifer, his daughter, Maeve, and his son, Eammon. David also leaves behind dear friends, Gloria and Jackie Gibbs, their son, Sullivan, his wife Jasmine, and his children, Evelyn and John Sullivan.
The family extends their thanks to the people of Scotland Neck and the community of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Richmond, VA for prayers and kindness during this difficult time. We are grateful for the hospice care received and for the care of the women from Home Life Care and the staff, doctors, and nurses at Edgecombe Vidant Hospital in Tarboro.
