GERING - Irene E. (Lanning) Russell, 90, former Box Butte County teacher, died Thursday, Nov. 16, at Northfield Villa in Gering. She was born May 31, 1910, at Hildreth. Her parents were Joy and Mary (York) Lanning.She graduated from Alliance High School in 1928, and then taught school in rural Box Butte County. She was married to Francis W. Russell on Dec. 20, 1929, at Alliance. The couiple farmed in Banner County until 1943, then moved to Cheyenne, and then moved to Scottsbluff in 1950. She was a bookkeeper for many years, taught Sunday School, and served on several boards.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Federated Women's Club, Delphian Study Club and Gra-Mar Auxiliary, and was active in the Scottbluff Jaycee Senior Center. She is survived by two sons, Elton Russell of Scottsbluff and Richard Russell of Clearwater, Fla.; her daughter, Barbara Eisenach of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.She also is survived by sister, Iris Houdyshell of Nampa, Idaho, and her brother Ronald Lanning of Pine Bluffs, Wyo. Mrs. Russell's funeral will be at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 20, at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Rev. David Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Alliance City Cemetery.
