Abijah Hastings Barrett was the firstborn of Thomas F. Barrett and Sarah Experience (Hastings) Barrett. On November 25, 1883, Abijah married Helen Maria Jenkins, born in Munsonville on December 21, 1857, the daughter of George Benjamin and Mary Ann Maria (Nye) Jenkins. The couple soon removed to Keene, where they had a large family of eight children, all born in Keene.
