MIDDLEBURY — Abraham L. Wollam Jr., 93, of Middlebury, passed away Sunday, May 31, at home.

He was born April 25, 1922, in Elkhart, to Abraham L. Sr. and Pearl (Graves) Wollam.

On March 27, 1943, in Las Vegas, he married Ernestine L. Franklin. She preceded him in death June 24, 2007, after 64 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Cook, Doris Reglein and Lola Gebhardt.

Abe attended Elkhart High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a B-24 nose gunner.

He retired from JJ Babbett Co. after 47 years as a toolmaker. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Goshen and Stone Lake Conservation Club. He also served as a Red Coat at Elkhart General Hospital.

He enjoyed making woodworking crafts and fishing. He had a wonderful sense of humor.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, and for an hour prior to the 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, service at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home in Elkhart, with Pastor Andrew Wollman officiating. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.

Memorials may be made to Stone Lake Conservation Club or the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
