He was the son of the late John Z. and Minnie Carpenter Wellman, father of the late Jimmy and Donald Russell, Nancy Wellman Smith, Eunice Fish, brother of the late Paul and Beryl Wellman, retired textile worker, alumnus of Lee College BTS, former supervisor of the Church of God Orphanage in Cleveland and Seivierville, Tenn., worked for the Gaston County School System for 13 years, member of First Assembly of God of Gastonia,
SURVIVORS: Wife, Desma Jones Wellman; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Edel Russell, Charlotte; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Russell and John Smith, Gastonia; sisters, Vernie Griffie, Gastonia, Flossie Lumpkin, West Virginia.; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.
