Pioneer Lives To Ripe Old Age
John Dean, 80 Years of Age, Died at His Home at Hutchinson.
John Dean, a resident of Hutchinson for nearly forty years, passed away at his home in that city last Thursday. Oct. 28, at the age of over eighty years. He had been very feeble for a few weeks prior to the end, and his demise was the result of a general physical break-down that results from advanced age. He was one of the pioneers of McLeod county, and enjoyed a wide acquaintance among the early residents. He served as county surveyor for over fifteen years, and for one term in 1983 and 1894 was county treasurer. The deceased was a man of sterling character, possessed a genial disposition and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. His many staunch friends in Glencoe regret to learn of his death.
The late John Dean was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania Sept. 29, 1829. He went to Columbus, Indiana, in 1850 and was married to Eliza B. Roberts at that place Jan 26, 1854 and came to Minnesota in company with B. M. Records in 1864 and settled at Helen. He moved to Hutchinson in 1872 and has lived there ever since. The deceased is survived by eight children. They are, Mrs. C. H. Duckering, of Everett, Washington; Mrs. F. E. Houck and Sanford, of Olivia, Minn.; John B. Walker, Minn.; Tillie and Mrs. S. S. Haw of Minneapolis; Alice, of Chatfield, and Emma, of Hutchinson. The funeral took place Saturday.
