R. A. Hughart, superintendent of public schools of Bath county, died last week.

Residence Bath County VA; 19 year-old laborer; 5'8", light complexion, light hair, gray eyes.
Enlisted on 6/6/1861 at Bath Court House, VA., he was commissioned into Captain William D. Ervin's Company "Bath Grays", 25th Virginia Infantry, as a 3rd Sergeant. [This company subsequently became (1st) Company G, 25th Virginia Infantry.]
On 7/11/1861 he was in Battle of Rich Mountain, WV.; POW (Company G surrendered there) 7/13/1861; Paroled there 7/17/1861; (1st) Company G, 25th Virginia Infantry, was broken up after capture and Parole; he was transferred into (1st) Company I while still POW; exchanged 8/13/1862 Aiken's Landing, VA.

Detailed 1/4-7/1863 to buy blankets for Company K.

Postwar he was a teacher living in Bath County, VA.

The 62nd Regiment Mounted Infantry completed its organization in September, 1862. The unit was composed of infantry and cavalry until December when the cavalry companies united with other companies to form the 18th Regiment Virginia Partisan Rangers, and at times the 62nd Partisan Rangers, the 62nd Infantry, and Imboden's Partisan Rangers. The command was mounted during the latter part of 1863 and served in Imboden's Brigade. It fought in western Virginia, was active in the Gettysburg Campaign, then participated in various conflicts in the Shenandoah Valley. The regiment took part in Early's operations and disbanded in April, 1865.
