Mr. George Woodrow Astlin, Sr., 86, of 7320 Kemps Lane, Frederick, died Friday, Nov. 12, at Northampton Manor Nursing Center, Frederick.

He was the husband of Reba S. Astlin, his wife of 45 years.

Born Nov. 28, 1912, in Washington, he was a son of the late Richard R. and Mary B. Walters Astlin.

Mr. Astlin was an active member of Frederick Church of the Brethren, serving on the church board, as chairman of the Property Committee, and as president of the Men's Bible Class for many years.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Astoria in the South Pacific.

Mr. Astlin worked many years as a steamfitter in the Washington metropolitan area, and was a member of the Steamfitters Local Union for 61 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Norma Lee Coyner and husband Bob of Beltsville; one son, George Woodrow Astlin Jr and wife Donna of Frederick; two stepsons, Robert B. Ramsburg Sr. and wife Kay of Rockville, and Donald P. Ramsburg of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 11 granchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Astlin was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home, with Mr. Astlin's pastors, the Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey, and the Rev. Lerry Fogle, officiating. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frederick Church of the Brethren, Building Fund, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701, or to the charity of one's choice.
