Wayne Richard Ball, 73, died Thursday (July 1, 2004) at his home west of McCook.

He was born July 28, 1930, to Archie and Neva (Fassler) Ball in Indianola. The family moved to Canada, where he received his education. They returned to McCook in 1943, where he spent the rest of his life.

On Oct. 16, 1965, he married Shirley Hill in McCook.

He worked for Vic Fette moving houses and then worked for the REA for eight years. He then began his own business, Ball Well Drilling, and raised hogs. He retired in 1989.

He was a member of McCook Saddle Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Robert; and one sister, Margy Simmons.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of McCook; two sons, John Ball of North Platte and Thomas Ball of McCook; two daughters, Susan Smith and husband, Ron of Wheatridge, Colo., and Donna Cassidy of Omaha; one brother, Roger Ball and wife, Carol of McCook; two sisters, Geraldine Leibrandt of Holdrege and Betty Newlun of Hastings; and four grandchildren.

Services are Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. John Albrecht officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials can be given in his name and left at the funeral home.

Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
