Joe William Ray, 75, died Oct. 19, 2004, at Hardin County General Hospital in Savannah.

Born May 16, 1929, in Wayne County, son of the late Oliver and Ester Ray, he was a member of Souls Harvest Church of God and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He was first married to Lillie Adel Smith Ray who preceded him in death.

On Nov. 2, 1987, he married Dorothy Irvin, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three stepdaughters, Paulette Bond of Portageville, MO., and Joyce Pickens and Diane McGarrity of Savannah; one stepson, Jimmy Irvin of Loretto; six sisters, Evelyn Myres and Margaret Higgins of Rockford, Ill., Sue Barks of Cedar Hill, Mo., Janie Sheilds of Fenton, MO., Louise Ray of Arnold, MO., and Marie Routt of Bridgeton, Mo.; two brothers, Bobby Ray of Hillsboro, Mo., and Gary Ray of Portageville; and 10 stepgrandchildren, eight stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Savannah.

Graveside services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today at the Portageville Cemetery.

DeLisle Funeral Home of Portageville is in charge of local arrangements.
