ROCHESTER - Edythe Elizabeth Bruzek, 310 N.W. Sixth Ave., Rochester, formerly of Owatonna, died Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Stewartville Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was 87.
Edythe Merchant was born Dec. 14, 1908, in Owatonna, the daughter of Wilford E. and Anna M. (Langan) Merchant.
Only July 1, 1930, she married Walter T. "the Old Bear" Bruzek at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. They moved from Owatonna to Rochester in 1946.
Mrs. Bruzek was a bookkeeper at KROC radio and later was a bookkeeper for Gibbons Printing. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Bruzek is survived by two sons, Richard O. Bruzek, and John T. Bruzek, both of Rochester; a brother, Ralph Merchant of Westbrook; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Macken Colonial Chapel, Rochester. The Rev. Peter Schuster will officiate. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Owatonna.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and an hour before the services Friday. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 this evening at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to the Diabetes Foundation or to Alzheimer's research.
