After the death of his first wife Jane Franklin Smith in 1838, John "Skinner" Smith married 2nd Mary Ann Hallum and they had three children:

Lucy Smith, Charles Smith and Basil Smith..

Lucy Smith, daughter of John "Skinner" Smith and Mary Ann Hallum Smith, married:

1st: Waddy Thompson Irby of Laurens County. He was a son of Col James H (Jim) Irby, a lawyer and planter who like "Skinner" Smith was a very wealthy man. Waddy went out as a Confederate Soldier and never returned, presumably killed in battle.

Afterwards, Mrs Irby married 2nd ____________Dickerson and they removed to Georgia.
