Charlene Bowen, 63, of Atchison, KS, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Charlene was born January 18, 1949 in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Charley and Thelma (Malotte) Lonjers.
She attended school in St. Joseph and Savannah, MO. Charlene had worked as a forklift driver for the former Rockwell before becoming a school bus driver for USD 409 in Atchison. She was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and camp counselor and had the opportunity to attend several mission trips. Charlene liked traveling, taking pictures, cooking and playing cards. She was a very social person and would play cards whenever possible. Charlene's greatest passion was her family, especially her loving grandchildren.
Charlene married Jearald Bowen on October 13, 1967 in St. Joseph, MO. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Marven (Victoria) Bowen, Nortonville, KS; daughters, Teresa (Pedro) Benitez and Tracey Comley, both of Atchison, KS; sisters, Osella Clabaugh, Gail Bowen, both of St. Joseph, MO; Jill Kovar, Atchison, KS; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charley Lonjers, Jr. and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumner Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 P.M., on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Youth Camp and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
